Thailand “2”

continued from Thailand

A year after returning to Canada from Thailand, I must have been yearning for a few days of unrest in a cramped seat, aches, pains, and jet lag. The remedy was to board a plane in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, fly to Montreal, check in with Qatar Airlines, fly to Doha, rush-connect Qatar flight to Bangkok, deplane at 3 AM (2 days later) and be informed that my checked bag did not arrive with me.

A terrific woman also from Canada on same flight was well versed in lost bags, and spoke Thai so she breezed us through the paperwork. We made an instant bond and drank coffee waiting for the next flight to arrive at 7 AM. Her bag appeared but mine did not; was promised for next flight but I wasn’t waiting any longer. We parted ways; I arrived at my hotel at 9 AM, too early for check in but ready for a breakfast that wasn’t in a plastic tray on my lap. Rest of the day was a blur; my bag did not arrive on that next flight…nor the next, nor the next.

The following day I attended my dental appointment check-up on last year’s procedures. My bag arrived intact at noon! Jet lag set in for a few days as I waited at 3 AM for sunrises instead of sleeping, then dozed at 5 PM instead of eating. Changed my itinerary for an earlier departure from Bangkok to Georgetown, Penang. I’d selected a university there regarding my admission to a degree program.
